"Everything the light touches is our kingdom."~The Lion King This castle was beautiful inside and the views speak for themselves. Definitely pretended to lord over the place a little bit. 🙃 Also King Lugwig II, who commissioned this place, had a literal man cave, stalactites and all, in his living quarters.
#Repost crystalhefner (get_repost) ・・・ I’m about to climb Sigiriya which is referred to by locals as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Sigiriya is one of the most valuable historical monuments of Sri Lanka. It looks like a massive rock was just dropped from the heavens since it’s surrounded by mainly flat land. The height of Sigiriya is approx 200 meters / 626 ft from the jungle below. Since the 3rd century BC Sigiriya served as a monastery. In the second half of the 5th century, King Kasyapa decided to construct a royal residence here. How they hauled the supplies (and the king) up there beats me. After the King’s death, Sigiriya again became a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century when the rock was then abandoned. Fast forward to present day and it is the country’s number one tourist destination. There is so much to see here: gardens, ruins, the “mirror wall”, the huge stone lion entrance, cave paintings, etc. 🗺: linaratravel 👕: vicidolls 📷: sergiovellatti #unesco #srilanka #visitsrilanka #travel #mytraveldiaries #wanderlust #explore #luxurytravel #linaratravel #timetoescape #ugaescapes #sigiriya #eighthwonderoftheworld #beauty #ancient #king #ruins #rock #lion #instatraveling #tourism #mytravelgram #traveldiaries #travellife #adventure #landscape #traveltheworld

✈ #IODESTINATION #ADAMSPEAK One of the highest mountain peaks of Sri Lanka, the conical shaped Adam’s peak is 2,243 metres tall. A sacred pilgrimage for several faiths, it is visited by Hindus, Buddhists as well as Muslim pilgrims. While the Hindus believe them to be the traces of the passage of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu (Hindu deities), the Islamic tradition asserts that it is the first footprint of Adam. #GALLE Galle is an architectural marvel where traditional European architecture and Asian traditions join hands. The city oversees the small streets that are home to ancient Dutch houses till date. The old city of Galle has also been recognised as a UNESCO world heritage site. #KANDY Founded in the 14th century, Kandy shines with its Royal Palace that represents the unique traditional Sri Lankan architecture. Limestone, marble, sculpted wood, terracotta and ivory are amongst the wide range of materials used for the overall construction. Do not miss the superb Botanic Garden here that dates back to 1821. #ANURADHAPURA Sigiriya or Lion Rock is another major archaeological site in Sri Lanka. The impressive city is named after the 180 metres high red stone rock, on which it was built. During his reign, King Kassapa had built sumptuous spaces at the top of the rock, in the 5th century AD, whose remains can still be admired today. #POLONNARUWA The former Sri Lankan capital, Polonnaruwa is home to numerous monuments, an incredible garden city being one of them. In the city, one can relish the remains of palaces and grandiose temples of the 12th century. Here, one can also admire the Gal Vihariya, a set of three large statues of Buddha carved into a rock wall. #DAMBULLA Dambulla is the largest and one of the best-preserved monasteries amongst the cave-temples of Sri Lanka. A haven of unique rural Buddhist paintings covering an area of 2100 square metres here, one can admire the artistic masterpieces of the 18th century. A total of 157 statues of various sizes are also kept there. The origin of the golden temple dates back to 3rd century BC. 67 days of summer adventure I got to spend with these curious explorers. Days spent in the woods, casting into new waters, creating crafts and outdoor masterpieces, building a pond and watching caterpillars become butterflies. Camping in our favourite public land spots, and volunteering at local events. We spent time with people we love. A weekend in Port Albert with grandpa and Uncle Brent. Turning over every rock in the Nine mile to find the biggest crayfish and being chased by the waves of Lake Huron. Snuggles and giggles were shared with my nieces and nephew. A day at the African Lion Safari, and watched The Lion King, and Aladdin on the big screen at the Muskoka drive-in theatre. We loved the shores of Grundy Provincial Park. Explored Bon Echo all the way to Bay of Quinte and a day trip to the Warsaw caves. Day tripped to Kearney and found beauty on the endless backroads, including a stop at Rain Lake, Algonquin Park. We hiked into the Parry Sound Hunt camp multiple times preparing for the upcoming bow season that will take us into the bush for most of October. The summer was incredible. I'm sad to see them go, but I'm also SO DARN excited for this next chapter to start! The littlest adventure crew baby starts school tomorrow (full-time next week)!! Which means eleven years home raising babies comes to an end for me . . . . . and a blank canvas awaits! #discoverontario #outdoorkids #outdoorfamily #muskoka #outdoorfamilies #exploreontario #myfamilyoutdoors #publiclands #dorsetontario #outdooradvocate #lakeofbays #momoffour #muskokalife #outdoorwomen #sheexplores #optoutside #yourstodiscover #brmblife #alifeoutdoors #kidswhofish #momlife #childhoodunplugged
