Why women weren't allowed to be astronauts. In the years since, research has shown that women may be more susceptible to certain health risks than men in space. Women are more likely to get urinary tract infections, and have a lower threshold for exposure to radiation, due to the risk of breast, ovarian, and uterine cancers.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) recently announced that it will develop a space capsule — called the Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV) — able to carry four astronauts into deep space to locations such as the Moon, an asteroid, or Mars.
